Podcast Episode 13 – Bakemonogatari Part 3

“To me, June 13th is a date of commemoration. At least, it should be. It has nothing to do with the bloomers or the school swimsuit. It began with a question from my girlfriend, Senjougahara Hitagi, who I’ve been going out with since last month. Mother’s Day. May 14.

“We’re going on a date.”

This was during lunch break on the appointed day. She abruptly said this while we were having a seemingly friendly lunch on the courtyard bench. I was so surprised that I dropped the egg omelet that I was holding in my chopsticks.

Huh? What did this woman just say?”

It’s bitter-sweet, seeing everything come to an end. It turns out producing the show was almost as much of an endurance sport as was recording 5 hours straight – and it was a blast for both of us every step along the way. This episode, while recorded back in October, could not have been released at a more perfect time (the Egg-Josh incident) in which I have gained a deeper understanding for Black Hanekawa. Stress is a horrible thing; in the moment, we’d do anything to rid ourselves of it. But it’s kind of funny when we look back and laugh it off – I only wish I had this perspective when recording this episode. That said, there’s still plenty left to say, so enjoy the final Monogats-cast!

DISCLAIMER: Gattai Milk is not a real website (somebody get on that). However, ray][out is, and you should check it out – especially The Subtle Doctor’s analysis on Bakemonogatari. In my book, he’s a pronounced Twittarian, yet still remains on the subtle side with his ‘ramshackle blog and low follower count’ – maybe you can help him out with that. It was his initial watching of Bakemongatari that made me start rewatching Monogatari (or Monogats to some), so in a way, he can be blamed for all of this.

Objective proof Senjougahara is best girl.

There’s no reason this can’t be done in a regular film. Good lord is it pretty.

I feel this clip speaks for itself. You’d be hard ressed to find such a powerful display of emotion in any other anime. When people say Japan doesn’t have any great character animators, I ask them to look at this show.

Thank you for listening all the way to the end. It has been fun riding the Monogats train with you; but this is the last stop, at least for a while. Be sure to hit up the Subtle Doctor, and his blog. In the meantime, if you want more Monogats and SHAFT goodness, feel free to hit me up on Twitter, where the party never stops.
